Anyone in Athens, Georgia during the early 1980s would’ve balked at the idea that their cult favourite post-punk band Pylon would ever make a second LP after 1980’s Gyrate. But here comes Chomp, every bit as wiry and belligerent as its predecessor, with a renewed sense for killer rock production to boot. The likes of ‘K’ and ‘Yo-Yo’ neatly subvert rock’s grandiosity with minimal instrumentation, their heady grooves carried by little more than jangling notes, a lively rhythm section and Vanessa Briscoe Hay’s Patti Smith-esque croon.
