Untouchable legends uttered in the same breath as REM and Gang of Four in their hometown of Athens, Georgia, but largely unknown in the wider post-punk world, Pylon made a lasting impact on alternative rock. Their 1980 debut Gyrate cemented their cult status with bludgeoning and mightily infectious rhythms, jangly yet wiry guitars, Vanessa Briscoe Hay’s Patti Smith-esque yelp and an innate sense for an edgy, killer hook.
