Three monsters of free-improvised noise gather for an LP of maniacal sonics to challenge their 2013 collaborative debut Cuts. Dubbed Cuts Open, pioneering noise musician Merzbow, free jazz saxophonist Mats Gustafsson and drummer Balazs Pandi unfurl a world of tumultuous sound in uncharacteristically quiet fashion, trading in total onslaughts for a slow-bubbling ominousness. When the atmosphere is broken by brutal punctuation, there’s an all-together cathartic quality you won’t hear anywhere else.
