Tracking their trajectory from underground unknowns to unexpected musical staples of TikTok videos, Monument fittingly celebrates the towering achievements of Belarusian trio Molchat Doma. While shimmering, wavy post-punk might not necessarily seem like excellent fodder for a viral phenomenon, Molchat Dosa’s vintage, dancefloor-ready sound is undeniable in its songwriting finesse, steadfast sonic imprint and focus on analogue grooves. Shades of New Order break through on the dry-ice synth and drum programming of ‘Utonut’’ and ‘Discoteque’, while the likes of ‘Obrechen’ and ‘Otveta Net’ iterate upon a more melancholic, Joy Division-indebted, goth-meets-jangle pop cadence.
