London Contemporary Orchestra return with another musical resurfacing in the form of this SA Recordings release. The string trio revitalise the boundary-breaking 20th century minimalism of Italian composer and noted fame-evader Giacinto Scelsi’s pioneering String Trio. Members Galya Bisengalieva, Robert Ames and Max Ruisi meditate on Scelsi’s droning suite throughout its four movements, invoking entire worlds with microtones and an overwhelming sense of musical drama, recalling the post-war works of Anton Webern as well as Steve Reich’s constant forward momentum, frustrated and made horrifying by peerless restraint between the notes.
