Dedicated distributors of synth heavyweights past and present Castles in Space return with Neil Hale’s love letter to a vintage electronic instrument. Hale, releasing under his Correlations moniker, delivers a striking work of forward-thinking electronica which pushes his chosen tool, the mythical OSCar synthesiser (first built in 1983), to its outermost limits. Hot Pots is a fantastical interstellar journey, past the ascending electronica of ‘Hot Pots 1’ and ‘Hot Pots 4’, to the twinkling pseudo-house of ‘Hot Pots 3’ and ‘Hotpots 8’. Though Hot Pots is studiedly contemporary, the wavy synthesised textures and rhythms give the LP an uncanny, past-future quality.
