Rob Gallagher and Alex Patchwork mastermind a wicked fusion record with their debut as The Diabolical Liberties. It’s difficult to imagine anything quite like High Protection & The Sportswear Mystics coming into existence before the emergence of truly global sounds; it’s a dense, multifaceted mutant of an LP, bubbling with scrappy post-punk bass and swaggering with funky electronica tones and hints of weighty jazz, always managing a surprise at every turn. ‘Sliders’ embodies these slippages of style over scattered breakbeats and a belligerent vocal delivery, snaking across skronking horns courtesy of Ignacio Salvadores, known for playing with King Krule.
