Slotting himself neatly among sferic’s roster of ambient masters like Space Africa, Jake Muir and Echium, cult composer and sonic collagist Roméo Poirier debuts on the label with a cheery postcard of Venusian beach soundscapes. Hotel Nota conjures a great many seaside vistas, not unlike a particularly pleasant island-hopper’s travelogue, as full of wide-eyed wonder as it is horizontal languidness. It shimmers like the clearest seawater, all lovely and pad-inflected on the likes of ‘Longe-côte’ and ‘Sablage’, and strangely propulsive with light Jon Hassellian percussion on ‘Thalassocratie’ and ‘Trace palmaire’.
