Noisy techno abstractions abound on Cutting Room’s The Night Chemist. The EP sees the Australian trio nurse their more industrial tendencies into fully-fledged dancefloor ammunition, enveloping the concrete heavy beats of ‘Always Rock Dog Ya Mates’ and ‘Soul Patch Assailant’ with alarming zithers of metallic sound design. The likes of ‘Hum’ and the chilling title track do away with conventional beats altogether, mangling the 4/4s into mutant electro. We end The Night Chemist where we began, only the destination seems stranger now with the insidious remix from Spanish industrial pioneers Esplendor Geométrico in which our opening beat is morphed by waxing and waning synths.
