WITHHOLD 008 keeps it old-school - no artist name, two single-word track titles and pure darkened rave sounds. All that’s missing is a white label and plain sleeve. Indeed, these two tunes sound as if they could have been produced in the heady days of golden-age jungle and drum ‘n’ bass, though a meaty whomp to the production belies the fact that this is a modern record. No-one would have batted an eyelid if ‘Energise’ and ‘Raven’ had emerged via Metalheadz in the mid-90s, their eerie synth tones shadowboxing with rumbling sub-bass and skittering breakbeats.
