Billed as an LP of contrasting elements, Frozen Dust sees Japanese composer Teruyuki Kurihara embrace stillness and movement in the most diverse — and arguably most aggressive — release in his catalogue. Moods shift back and forth from glacial ambient compositions to uneasily rhythmic electronica, all opposed worlds bleeding into one. The bilious drone of ‘Coin Trap’ contains the DNA of later tracks ‘Glide’ and ‘Lost’, a strain which mutates into the hardened industrial vertigo of ‘DW’ and ‘Krgecra09’, eventually attaining perfect synchronicity with the title track. A duality of sound moves throughout Frozen Dust, but Kurihara’s strength is in swapping their labels around.
