Operating under a similar rubric as the likes of William Basinski and Harold Budd, celebrated English composer Richard Skelton crafts worlds of moving joy through degradation. These Charms May Be Sung Over A Wound turns the decaying tones of his soundalikes inside out, easily invoking the composer crafting his delicately uplifting drones from thin air, absorbed from the natural world. ‘Against All Tendernesses of the Eye’ skirts in and around melody, operating on the strength of its tiniest details — a steely resonance gradually rising, a strange, circadian whirring — as ‘For A Swarthened Body’ transforms an implacable metallic buzz into something which sounds uncannily organic.
