The View From Halfway Down is the long-awaited full-length debut from Andy Bell — or at least, the first to bear his name. A country mile away from the studied minimalism of his techno works under the GLOK moniker, the Ride guitarist/singer’s style here nevertheless contains a fixation on psychedelic repetition of a krautrock vein. Shades of Neu! motorik sonic philosophies emanate from the resplendent synth-soaked drum propulsions of ‘Indica’, ‘Skywalker’ and the affirmative opener ‘Love Comes In Waves’, while Bell revels in a 1960s classic pop vintage on the finger-picked twang of ‘Ghost Tones’ and ‘Cherry Cola’.
