A pair of deep, dark and strange grime beats from Trends’ Mean Streets label here. The label boss teams up with grime producer P Jam on Trilogy Vol. 1, and their collaboration ‘Truth Or Die’ is a nightmarish combination of Eski production values and horror-movie strings taking shape as a bolshy bass beat, made pitch black by its stark minimalism and eerie vocal sample. Silas’ ‘Mirage’ is a rather leftfield offering - its half-time lurch and seasick bassline have one thinking of Youngsta while the MC flawlessly spits bars across the bone-crushing synth-brass rhythm - the overall effect is just as ominous as the Trends/P Jam offering.
