Afterhours and LA Vampires man Nick Malkin presents a new take on the LA album. Usually the site of alienation and excess in the works of Joni Mitchell and Harry Nilsson, Malkin situates the timbre of Typical Night In The Pit within the same realms. Snippets of noir-ish jazz snake through the electronic impulses of ‘Secondhand Identity’ and ‘Through A Rain-Streaked Window’, while distant conversations reverberate across the double bass swagger of ‘Into the Light 93’.
