There’s a profoundly intimate and personal nature to any work by Parisian composer François Bonnet aka Kassel Jaeger. But Swamps / Things represents a personal history — namely, an implacable draw towards swampy landscapes — that finds the producer and theorist locking his uneasy ambiences and drones into place with his life experience. Conceived as a kind of opera, according to the artist, pieces such as ‘Fog Constellation (approaching)’ and ‘NYC Bobcats’ (featuring Jim O’Rourke) flit between scraps of melody and noise in a limitless mire of sound.
