The saturnine king of drone doom Stephen O’Malley takes time away from his Sunn O))) duties to pair with Editions Mego head Peter Rehberg aka Pita for another KTL extra-curricular. VII finds the duo refining their past score and theatre work into one of their most fully-fledged collaborations to date. The maniacal drone of ‘The Director’ ebbs between harmony and discord, while subterranean bellows breathe life into the noise-inflected likes of ‘Silver Lining’ and ‘Lee’s Garlic’, leaving time for gentle introspection with the surprisingly chipper ‘Tea with Kali’.
