We may need to double-check this, but master composer of granular ambient hauntology William Basinski seems to have teamed up with likeminded tape loop obsessive (and studio assistant) Preston Wendel to form the lounge-inspired fusionist project Sparkle Division. More than just an astonishing musical left-turn, To Feel Embraced is an LP of unabashed joy. From the opening sampled big band explosion of ‘You Go Girl!’ to the nigh-instrumental hip-hop-meets-free jazz squall of ‘Oh No You Did Not!’, there’s a nary a sound on this record that doesn’t invite a massive grin of pleasure.
