Originally released in 1994 and long overdue for a repress, the integral electronic chill of Mercury EP by Dave Clark and Roger Elliott — aka State of Flux — is as fresh a release as ever to have shared the early 1990s breathing space of Aphex Twin, Derrick May and Biosphere. Beginning with ‘Mercury’, bubble-popping percussion and a wily synth bit introduces the mood of the EP; classy, forward-thinking, playful. ‘New Lanark’ injects bass into the proceedings, as ‘The News (Analogue Mix)’ takes a twinge of jazziness in its percussive ease before the terse build-up to the finish line with ‘O.W.G.’
