To commemorate the 15th anniversary of Jon Hopkins' debut album, Just Music reissue the work that shows the talented English composer at the beginning of his career. The remastered edition accentuates Hopkins' crisp and sleek production. Released when he was 22 years old, Opalescent's arrangements are much less edgy and elaborate than the style he would later come to develop - best showcased on 2013's Immunity. Yet, the contemplative compositions have almost meditative qualities. Mellow electric guitar melodies, played by his friend and regular collaborator Leo Abrahams, paint a world of inner harmony; 'Grace's' steel guitar technique immediately evokes associations with sunshine and peaceful bliss. The glimmering title track combines cinematic ambient and classical chords with the subtlest of drum n bass beats at the threshold of audibility: elements that would come to define his inimitable style.
