Genres

Voices is the latest LP of stirring contemporary classical music from master-of-the-form Max Richter. The album is centred around recordings of people reading the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - Richter’s callout prior to the album returned readings in over seventy languages - which the Waltz With Bashir composer laces through mournfully beautiful post-minimalist chamber instrumentation. Many of the tracks here centre around massed string harmonies, though the delicate piano number ‘Prelude 6’ shares space with Ludovico Einaudi’s best-known work. Ólafur Arnalds, Peter Broderick and Nils Frahm are also recalled across the course of the album. Voices is an evocative, humane LP from an artist at the top of their game.
