Toronto duo Evan Vincent and Ian Syrett aka Active Surplus land on Pacific Rhythm with a graceful wee disc of house gems. Active Surplus recalls a host of past label releases, from the sample tactics of ‘Yaye’ to the carnivalesque beat of ‘Ambrosia’, albeit with a unique spin. ‘One Beyond’ seemingly builds its beat out of the thin air of a jazz sample, while ‘Meera’ fools the ear with polyrhythmic paces.
