Melbourne instrumental soul and straight up chilled jazz troupe Surprise Chef debut with their first full-length on Mr Bongo. All News Is Good News sees the quartet burst open the confines of their close knit musical circle with numerous guest spots to accompany their guitar/keys/drums/bass set up — a force so disarmingly put to work on the self-titled opening joint and ‘the likes of ‘Blythe Street Nocturne’. Flutes and sax adorn the shadowy, jazz-hop instrumental informed numbers ‘Herbie Hemphill’ ‘Yung Boi Suite’, and it can’t help but seem like this fledgling band have nailed their sound already.
