Back in 2014 the 79ers Gang turned many heads with debut LP Fire On The Bayou, an album which presented a modern evolution of the Mardi Gras Indian sound that the pair of Big Chief Romeo and Big Chief Jermaine had grown up around. Six years on Expect The Unexpected does something similar. The ramshackle, percussion-heavy grooves here are by turns celebratory, hallucinatory and contemplative, vibes matched by the bluesy incantations of the vocalists. Guest contributions come from, among others, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and LCD Soundsystem’s Korey Richey.
