Jim O’Rourke’s Shutting Down Here is a single-track, thirty-four-minute work which the one-time Sonic Youth member created at the esteemed electroacoustic studio GRM. Across the track, O’Rourke takes in everything from whisper-quiet drones to Eliane Radigue-style electronic experiments and splurges of semi-discordant sound reminiscent of Iannis Xenakis. ‘Shutting Down Here’ is an ambitious piece of music handled with the care and dexterity one has come to expect from O’Rourke down the years.
