The Night Terrors member Miles Brown conjures alternative histories for the dancefloor with the high-octane electro of The Gateway. Released to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the theremin, Brown re-imagines the instrument as an integral vessel for melody alongside his ever-present Moog experiments, a strange alien force emerging from heavy grooves like a spirit voice cutting through the ether. There’s a poetic quality to Brown’s usage, as the snaking lines are made to ring out across ‘Shudder Speed’ and ‘Summon Chanted Evening’ just as a mournful voice drapes itself over a disco track. There’s life in the world’s oldest electronic instrument yet.
