Guitarist Fabiano Do Nascimento fashions a great tapestry of Brazilian musical styles for Prelúdio, his third LP on Now Again Records. Beginning with ‘Rio Tapajós’ and ‘Partiu’, swiftly skittering instrumentals eke out organic jazz shapes, as shades of bossa nova inform the tight harmonics which open ‘Rainha’ and ‘Malandro’, right before the shuffle of drums and percussion expand the sonic landscape. A folk sensibility permeates Prelúdio; the likes of Hermeto Pascoal and Baden Powell can be felt throughout Nascimento’s studied fret work.
