Silvester is a radical deviation from André Bratten's previous LPs. Instead of the deft electro productions of a record like 2019’s Pax Americana, these tracks are lengthy sprawls of dark ambience, glitching electronics and industrial grind. The title of Silvester is a reference to ‘Silvester Anfang’, the track which German kosmische synth legend Conrad Schnitzler donated to the Norwegian black metal outfit Mayhem for their 1987 LP Deathcrush. Running with Mayhem’s intense sonic aesthetic while leaving behind their questionable outlook on the world, Silvester attempts to find a midpoint between the Schnitzler, Mayhem and Bratten sounds, the result of which is an uncompromising and darkly thrilling record reminiscent of Prurient.
