Breaking free from the limitations of electro which characterised their previous releases, Detroit’s Dopplereffekt broke four years of relative silence with a new image and sonic ethos. Informed by scientific writing and political ideals, 2003’s Linear Accelerator delves deep into the utopian philosophy of early techno through its long-forgotten bedfellow: the avant-garde. As such, the likes of ‘Photo Injector’ and ‘Niobium Resonators’ resist conventional 4/4 rhythmic positions, while the synth odysseys of ‘Z-Boson’ and ‘Higgs-Mechanism’ recall the auditory architecture of Kraftwerk.
