Soul Jazz Rare 7"s: Richard Brown
Sweet and Kind
Soul Jazz Records
Catalogue Number
Release Date
June 20, 2020

Steeltown Records may not be a household name like a Motown or Stax, but the Gary, Indiana imprint is still an important label in the development of soul music due to the fact that it hosted some of the early Jackson 5 releases. Richard Brown’s only single ‘Sweet and Kind’, which emerged on Steeltown in 1968, is a superb rare groove - the sweaty drive of ‘Sweet and Kind’ and its B-side ‘Don't Listen to The Grapevine’ are the sort of records which would have driven Northern Soul heads nuts in the dancehalls of Lancashire back in the day. ‘Sweet and Kind’ and ‘Don't Listen to The Grapevine’ have now been given a reissue courtesy of Soul Jazz.
