Mason Bee is the solo project of Benet Walsh, multi-instrumentalist producer based in the Welsh Marches, best known as long-term co-writer and touring partner with U.K. electronic duo Plaid (Warp Records). With Play Flights, Mason Bee delivers an LP which links together several related strains of kosmische synth, folk, IDM and electronic composition in order to create a set of intricate and thoughtful songs. The gentle pulses, rich harmonies and glistening synthesizers that adorn Play Flights unfold throughout the LP encompassing a harmony of disparate methods and techniques including acoustic instruments, phone recordings and more DIY studio techniques. Primarily the solo output of Benet Walsh and his studio in the Welsh Marches of the UK, the album also incorporates additional musicians from across the globe via Australia and Portugal. Touring bandmates Plaid have mixed the album and also provide a Bleep exclusive remix of 'We Were Kin', trading the original's treated guitar melody for strident drums interlaced with harmonised vocals, rounding off Mason Bee's orientation flight with assured might.
