The Iceman Junglist Kru are having a productive 2020, racking up releases on labels like YOUTH and The Tapeworm under a variety of aliases. Their latest horse to bolt the stable is 1-800 ICEMAN’S Cash Only cassette. So far there’s no word on whether the Iceman here is a single fellow or the pair of Chino Balance & Ryun Ehlke, but what we can say for certain is that the two sides of this tape encapsulate the range of this collective’s mysterious, enigmatic and inventive productions. The A-side is torrid and brutalized, with arid industrial vignettes giving way to full on blown-out breakbeats stamping self assuredly in the footsteps of Christoph De Babalon et all. Flip the tape over and you’ll find that the vibe is completely reversed, with 1-800 ICEMAN serving up airy synth drones which oscillate between uplifting and unsettling.
