Unbroken Dreams Of Light, the new compilation from FaltyDL’s Blueberry Records, gives equal billing to new material from label stalwarts like Dasychira and XGLARE as well as work from the likes of Horsepower Productions and µ-Ziq. The result is an LP which bursts with creativity, its stylistically wide-ranging tracklist brought together by an energy and fearlessness that has long driven the best electronic music production.

A fair few of the cuts here are suited to the dancefloor - Horsepower Productions serve up a retro breakbeat-techno tool, Todd Osborn and Luke Vibert bring together their considerable talents on the electro thumper ‘5’, and FaltyDL himself delivers a Lorenzo Senni-esque rave rush in the form of ‘Ruby Rod’. However, like the classic IDM which clearly inspires many of these productions, much of Unbroken Dreams Of Light operates in that space between dance music and pure electronic composition. There are prominent beats to cuts from XGLARE, UC, Cousin Cockroach and others, but these also come spun out by quirky production and a deference to textures which suggests the primary concern here is to create inventive work as opposed to club tracks. This feeling is even stronger on numbers such as Dasychira’s ‘Deadnettle’, a highly unusual production which wouldn’t sound out of place on a SVBKVLT LP, The Other Functions’ post-punky ‘Never Ending’, or the abstract vignette that is FaltyDL’s second contribution ‘Focus Group 2’.

Unbroken Dreams Of Light is a compilation which celebrates the fine work that FaltyDL’s Blueberry Records has done to this point - and also points to a bright future for the label.
