Gavilán Rayna Russom delivers an LP of scuffed-up, ultra-distorted beat tracks as Black Meteoric Star. Disco is lo-fi as all hell, defiantly and proudly so. The most overdriven end of the L.I.E.S. roster is recalled by these crunching beats and dollar-bin synth tones which skirt the edges of New Beat, minimal wave, EBM and acid techno. However, Disco does a good job of not alienating the listener with all of these caustic timbres - in fact, Gavilán Rayna Russom has made a rather inviting album here, one that welcomes in anyone who’s down with the sound.
