Luke Lund’s Hopium is an absolutely merciless set of industrial techno mutations from the Finland-based artist. Many of the most intense practitioners in modern dance music are referenced across this record, from The Bug’s anarcho-dub tunes to the precise techno of Surgeon and Justin Broadrick’s uncompromising noise tracks. However, Lund warps and distorts the tones here until they become a thing entirely of their own, their strange time signatures and writhing sonics both alien and invigorating. Hopium is not one for the faint of heart.
