A delightful, expansive, evocative record from Stephen James Buckley, released once more under his Polypores moniker. Azure’s musical make-up brings together several in-vogue synthetic genres - kosmische, new age, ambient, fourth world - yet never sounds constrained. Indeed, what we have here is a pure sonic experience, one which journeys into sound in order to seek truths. In the way that chants and drones intermingle with jangling whispers of stringed instrumentation one finds Polypores softening the potent questing of Sun Ra with Laraaji’s knack for empathetic, understanding tones, all while maintaining the adventurous ethos of Popol Vuh.
