Enigmatic producer TBZ returns to R=A with another presentation of his unusual vision for techno. A-side ‘Clocked’ is strange and hypnotic. The track’s microshifts draw from minimal techno, but the tempo is too quick and the rhythms just a mite too insistent for the definition to fit comfortably. It’s less a dance track than it is a covert strategy. In contrast, ‘Rude Beat’ sounds like someone has ripped the guts from ‘Clocked’ - the way that this thing lurches around makes one think of an early Dizzee Rascal instrumental dosed on codeine.
