More wide-ranging electronic takes from B. Rupp on January Songs here, his second release via Stay Awake! Records. January Songs has three main modes, all of which are distinct yet also bring out the power of the others. Firstly, you find the record backed by droning, hypnagogic ambiences; these are offset by a few clattering industrial techno jams in the L.I.E.S. vein; and then there are tracks like ‘In Endless Blue, Cyan, Navy’, which, with their noisy anti-rhythms and whooshing electronics, demonstrate a third way.
