Those in the know will already be aware that The Grid’s 1990 joint ‘Floatation’ is a cast-iron classic of ambient house, one of those tunes that sends ravers of a certain age into misty-eyed reveries of nostalgia. Now, thirty-years on from the first emergence of ‘Floatation’, Paul Woolford has delivered a remix of the tune under his Special Request moniker. It’s an epic reimagining from Woolford here, one whose sprawling thirteen-minute runtime begins in the outer-edges of halcyon ambience and subsequently swirls together downtempo house, hip-hop and bleep techno to create a hugely emotive tune. Original Grid member Richard Norris - he of Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve fame - returns the favour by remixing Woolford’s remix on the vinyl flip.
