Copenhagen’s SØS Gunver Ryberg is an artist who has made some of the most head-turning experimental techno of recent times. This energy carries through to her debut EP for Whities, a set that combines ominous synthscapes with roiling beats. ‘In The Core’ and ‘Flux’ are the DJ-ready numbers - though drums may turn themselves inside out to continually find new patterns they remain danceable throughout, and when combined with somewhat dystopian synth-pads the effect of these tunes is not dissimilar to classic Autechre. Meanwhile the trio of other takes on Whities 030 strip out the rhythms to lean into frosty ambiences - there’s some Oneohtrix Point Never in here, and, going further back, Vangelis.
