Works For The Ever Present Orchestra is a typically impressive work from Alvin Lucier. The music here centres around electric guitars played with e-bows, a tool that allows for them to emit unbroken streams of sound. However, the final results are far from just droning chords, with Lucier getting the performers to draw everything from rising wave oscillations to low hums from their instruments. All of this is augmented by spare but potent work from the rest of the ensemble - piano, saxophone, violin or whatever else Lucier requires at a given moment.
