SOHN’s music often has a grand and cinematic quality to it. As such, the choice of the artist born Christopher Michael Taylor to link up with a classical ensemble - in this case the Metropole Orkest, an orchestra which has worked with everyone from Henrik Schwarz to Basement Jaxx - makes a great deal of sense. The recordings here were taped at a concert that opened the 2019 Amsterdam Dance Event, and these reinterpretations are epic enough to befit any curtain-raiser. Tracks like ‘The Wheel’, the skipping electro-pop tune that was a highlight of SOHN’s 2013 debut LP Tremors, maintain the soulful electronic core of the originals while also being elevated to great heights by blasts of strings, brass and percussion.
