There has been a resurgent reissues market for private-press jazz LPs in recent times - see, for instance, Soul Jazz’s ongoing Lloyd McNeill series. The latest in this run is saxophonist Dawan Muhammad’s Deep Stream, a 1979 album that stood as Muhammad’s only release until 2003. This is a set of grooving post-bop that is often flecked by spiritual influences. Fifth track ‘Is That You’, a stirring and string-drenched vocal ballad, is a pleasant curveball.
