Hailed as a key figure in contemporary solo improvisation, cellist and composer Okkyung Lee delivers a most revelatory LP, her first on Shelter Press. Yeo-neun sees Lee on uncompromising form, ironically far from the stringed shrillness of 2013’s Ghil, in exercising her wondrously exacting instrumentality on ‘here we are (once again)’ and ‘the yellow porcelain bird’, while allowing controlled chaos reign supreme on the busied harps and pianos of ‘another old story’.
