John Frusciante’s latest record as Trickfinger is another set of whimsical and idiosyncratic electronic productions rooted in the inventive spirit of IDM. On She Smiles Because She Presses The Button the acidic techno tones that powered records like 2017’s Trickfinger II are shelved in favour of muted keyboards, clattering programmed drums and buoyant bass that has a bit of electro-funk about it. Frusciante yokes these tones together into a warm and welcoming set that wouldn’t sound out of place on Rephlex or Planet Mu - as it is, She Smiles Because She Presses The Button emerges via Acid Test sub-label Avenue 66.
