Genres

Analogical Force have gone big for their thirtieth release on the label. The milestone is celebrated with this triple-vinyl collection, one that welcomes both old favourites and prestigious guests to the table. Working with a dozen previous Analogical Force releases, the remixers all get into the spirit of things here, putting their own unique spins on the original material while also leaning into the braindance, IDM and variant acid styles that have won the label so many admirers in recent years.

Certain contributors construct new delights from their own well-worn formulas. Venetian Snares is the perfect artist to kick this off, his maniacal breakbeats finding a kindred spirit in Ruby My Dear - specifically the latter’s ‘Dèdaism’. Entries from EOD, Om Unit, Konx-Om-Pax and Plaid each take up the mantle laid down by Venetian Snares, and while none of their entries are quite as frenetic as the former’s take on ‘Dèdaism’ there is a similarly fast-paced zip to all.

Other tunes here keep up the creative energy even as the bpms come down. Samuel Kerridge mutates the enigmatic Brainwaltzera's gloomy bUnker production from AF014 with bullish skill. Dwaalicht and Humanoid do great things with 303s, their Daed/Anodyne reworks chugging along at techno tempo, while Radioactive Man serves up a delicious grime-tinged electro joint for the penultimate cut and Ostgut Ton’s Etapp Kyle flips Mause’s ‘DAFFOFILLIC —UBALIST’ into a shimmering IDM-techno piece. Most atmospheric of all is Anthony Baldino’s stuttering, grandiose downtempo reimagining of Roel Funcken’s ‘Danzar Arturion’ which closes proceedings.

Analogical Force deliver a dozen staggering reworkings of some of their catalogue on this new compilation.
