Here we have some deeply cosmic jazz fusion — think Flying Lotus, only somehow from a further reach of space — courtesy of The Colours That Rise. Their debut LP Grey Doubt captures a sort of moment in UK history, a time when BAME voices are demanding to be heard. Multitudinous strains run through the LP, from the Detroit techno synth bubbles of ‘Opacity’, to the opalescent and menacingly funky ascendency of ‘Orion’s Belt and Beyond’.
