Laced With Rumour: Loud-Speaker Of Truth is a set of multifaceted compositions from Maxwell Sterling. These lengthy tracks draw from a variety of avant-garde stylings - electroacoustic music, cutting-edge drone, the computerised cello renderings of Oliver Coates - but never use their lofty stylistic ambitions as a way to alienate the listener. Rather, Sterling’s music here is playful and welcoming, the chiming, shimmering timbres often building into throngs of sound that owe something to Laraaji and Sun Ra. Occasionally the music is plumbed with depth-charge sub-bass tones and watery synth chords which nod to dub techno, though cuts such as ‘Loud-Speaker’ abstract the style to end up in Noton territory.
