Pavel Milyakov, who has increasingly moved away from his Buttechno alias in recent years, returns to The Trilogy Tapes with a set of technoid electronic abstractions. Masse Métal is full of terse and unusual music in which micro-loops and little glitches of synthetic ephemera are brought together to create strangely hypnotic soundscapes reminiscent of Oberman Knocks and Parris. The more beat-driven numbers - ‘302’, ‘202’ - move closer to the likes of Nikki Nair, but Masse Métal remains tense.
