It seems that, even after his untimely passing in 2018, we’ll still be discovering and re-discovering some of the most forward-thinking score work coming from Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson. This release in particular, sees Jóhannsson applying a wide-eyed romance to the tragedy of an up-and-coming NCAA wrestler. 2009’s Personal Effects is a tale of love, loss and wrestling — and Jóhannsson finds the emotional core of the movie through swelling strings and a sense for the moving.
